16th September 2016

Next week we say farewell to a founder member of Harrogate Harmony and I thought it right and proper that this important engagement be brought onto our list for record in the annals of the Chorus. I’ve only known Dennis for a short time and found him to be the most pleasant of chaps, always there to help and with a clear and dear love of his singing. Only a few weeks ago he was exchanging banter with me from Cyprus, an island that I know well from my army days. In his correspondence, it was clear to see he was extremely keen to return for our ‘Showcase’ concert, arriving back the day before and very much with a ‘don’t start without me’ attitude! After the concert, he mentioned that it was with great pride he sung with the chorus on that night, which was extremely uplifting for me and great testament to how well the chorus performed. How all of you must feel, having known Dennis for eons longer than I had the pleasure of knowing him, goes without saying really. You must be so saddened at the loss of such a dear friend and my thoughts are with you as, indeed, all of our thoughts are with Dennis’s wife, Nan, and his family. I’m sure all that can make it will be there in attendance at his funeral and the singing will come from the heart. As one of you mentioned at rehearsal, it’s what Dennis would have wanted. I’m sure the Harrogate Harmony send-off will be a most fitting farewell to a stalwart of the Chorus. His wonderful tones will be sadly missed.
